Deep Drop Trip

This trip is typically overnight, 50-60 miles offshore where we'll be using our computerized Lindgren Pitman reek. We target species that swim deep ~ 800 +/- feet deep to find Swordfish, Mako Shark, Big Eye Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Snowy Grouper (seasonally). We are dropping rigs into very dark deep water, so dark at this depth, that we use LED glow lights to attract the monsters. These beautiful fish will range in size from 40-1000 lbs.

Looking for a trip for young children?

Our 1/2 day trip is perfect. 4 hours of fishing just off the beach within site of land. In the summer we'll be targeting Spanish mackerel, bluefish and very large sharks.

The Impulsive is a fishing charter boat for hire available in Bald Head Island, Southport and Oak Island. 1/2 day, 3/4 day, full day, gulf stream and deep drop trips. We can customize the perfect trip for you and your family. Captain Paul Thompson strives to give everyone, no matter what your fishing experience, the trip of a lifetime!

The Impulsive is available year round as a charter boat for hire. We also offer sightseeing cruises (2 hour minimum) on the Cape Fear River and longer cruises to Wrightsville Beach and historic downtown Wilmington.

The Impulsive will pick you up at the nearest location to where you are staying. We target Tuna, Wahoo, Billfish, Mahi-Mahi, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Dolphin, Amberjack, Cobia and Sharks.

Totally equipped, 38 foot Bertram. Air-conditioned cabin and full bathroom.

February, 2021 the Impulsive was repowered with brand new, twin Fiat N67's ~ 450 HP each, 24 valve, common rail diesel engines. Their performance is clean, efficient and very QUIET! NO EXHAUST SMELL!
